Progress

In two weeks of being full time at Step by Step, Logan has made some great progress. We get daily progress reports on his development, and they are very positive. He's only had one bad day so far, and that was yesterday. He didn't want to stand in line, didn't want to sit when asked to, but from all accounts, wasn't lashing out. While most parents (read: those without autistic children) would say that was bad. I don't. I don't condone it, but if he's not lashing out physically, then that's good and it's progress. I've learned to appreciate the baby steps he makes.

The next big step in his development is potty training. That's going to be the biggest challenge I think he's had in his life so far, bar the autism factor. And of all the weeks to start will be the week of the 4th. Step by Step is closed that week. Generally, they are closed for two weeks beginning that week for vacation, but only one week this year and it's not really a vacation. They will be moving into their new location (which is much closer than where they are now). Not only will I get fireworks on the 3rd and 4th, but every other day because of trying to potty train Logan. I don't see him learning it completely in one week, but I'd like to see some sort of progress in that area. I just have to remember, baby steps....

Wow - what you describe sounds a LOT like my sister's oldest - Dominic. He turned 4 in March - has been in school since his 3rd birthday. He did see an Autism Specialist prior to his third birthday, but she never diagnosed him. Renee was supposed to bring him back to see her 6 months later, but never did. I don't know if it's denial, or the fact that he has made TREMENDOUS progress at school or perhaps a combination of the two. The kid is very smart, but has NO interest in potty training (could care less when his younger brother gets praised for peeing and pooing on the toilet), still has the everything-in-the-mouth thing going on, still talks in his own language on occasion, and will only eat a handful of things (french toast, pop tarts, peanut butter cookies, chips, pizza, and will ONLY drink water). He eats junk and has an issue with texture of foods (then again, I don't eat seafood because of the texture......LOL). On the other hand, he is very well behaved, laid back and sooooo loveable. I keep saying the kid is going to work for Comcast someday because he associates me with the logo and comes out with slogans he hears on TV when he sees it! LOL There's definitely a learning disability there -- whether it is Autism or he's simply delayed, we really don't know. But it's not easy.

I'm glad to hear Logan is making progress! I hope the potty training thing is going ok! Won't it be nice to not have to buy diapers or Swimmies anymore?! He's so damn cute too! I am sure with such awesome, attentive parents as you and Melissa, that child will be as normal as everyone else (God help him! LMAO!). Keep the posts coming - I'm anxious to hear about his progress!!

Hope all is well in every other regard! I miss you guys! (BTW - your old house just sold AGAIN a couple months ago.....LOL)
